Upcoming Conference on the Preservation of Sex as a Legal Category

The Women’s Human Rights Campaign (WHRC) a feminist group dedicated to protecting women’s sex-based rights, will hold a public webinar and Q&A session on September 26th from 3-4:30pm BST. The conference will center on the campaign’s Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights, which is a comprehensive defense of biological sex as a legal category, as opposed to so-called “gender identity”. The Declaration has been signed by just under 12,000 people and over 250 organisations from 120 countries.

The conference will introduce the Declaration’s nine articles, as well as a litany of recent examples of harm caused to women and children by “gender-identity” legislation and ideology. Experts from a variety of nations will panel the conference.

Along with Maureen O’Hara, a UK-based lawyer, the speakers include Kara Dansky, a US-based lawyer, and Eugenia Rodrigues, a WHRC member from Brazil. Rodrigues is a spokesperson for the Brazilian campaign “No Corpo Certo” (On the Right Body), which advocates for children’s safety by calling for an end to the practice of “sex-reassignment” on children.

“Across the world, we are seeing an increase in efforts to replace sex with “gender identity” as a legally protected category,” said Kara Dansky, chair of the WHRC Committee on Law and Legislation and member of the WHRC-USA Interim Steering Committee. “The purpose of this webinar is to inform policymakers on the repercussions of their votes for the rights, privacy, and safety of women and girls.”

Those interested in attending the webinar may register in advance by visiting WHRC’s webinar page at www.womensdeclaration.com/en/whrc-live/.
